I haven't posted in a while, surprise surprise.... A LOT has happened!
A few weeks ago I seriously hurt my back doing a deadlift. I feel better, but everytime I have tried doing just some cardio etc, my back has given me some trouble. At the same time, I don't want to do regular deadlifts in my routine now, so I need to find a new one. I haven't quit. But, I have been slacking!!
Add to this that I was just diagnosed with ADD! Yea! I won't go into a lot of detail with that, except to say, wow so much of my life makes sense now!!
I have also had some family issues going on... joy. But hopefully those are getting better.
I think I am going to get my personal training cert. AFAA offers an online program now. Even though it is online it sounds really tough!! They even make you have a webcam so they can watch you take your tests and make sure it is really you!! I think I am going to go ahead and purchase it now because they have a deal going on. Then I have a year to finish.
So, I have not been to the gym in the last couple weeks but with a back injury as bad as mine was I want to make really sure I am healed before attempting to lift again!!
Oh, and the meds I have started for ADD kill my appetite and I was having trouble eating enough before!

I'm Not Slacking
At least not on exercise. I guess I have been a little with updates. Well, if things go as planned and I go to the gym tomorrow that will make 4 strength training sessions this week! I actually think that will be a new record because before I was doing 3 times a week. I don't think I have ever gone 4 times. I also figure with this new schedule I am going to have to step things up at home because otherwise dh will start complaining that my working out is getting in the way of things I SHOULD be doing at home. ( I completely agree with that too. I signed up to be a wife and mother long before I decided to be a figure athlete).
So I have been super sore this week... which I know they say is not necessary, but damn, it makes me feel like I had a good workout. I am going to try to put some pictures up soon. Probably about 2 or three weeks from now I will put up my January last year pic compared to my January this year pic, but I want a couple more weeks of this new routine under my belt first.
I have not heard back from the girl at my gym that I wanted help from on figure competing. This makes me glad I tried so far in advanced because I may have to look elsewhere!!

Complete Failure... sometimes good, sometimes NOT
Well, yea for reaching total muscle failure today! Boo, for dropping a barbell on myself because I didn't have a spotter. Lesson learned! I promise! I was at first using only the bar to do close grip bench presses, but after a few sets I went up to 50 lbs... yes, I put 2.5's on the bar. Well, on my second to last rep I almost failed and I should have racked the damn thing. But no, I tried for one more. I could not get the damn bar back up. I got one side racked but even with both hands, could not get the other side up. Apparently NO ONE saw what was going on, because I sure as hell would have helped someone who looked like me at that point (it was pretty dead though) So I finally pushed really hard with my legs and slid myself up under the bar into a sitting position where I was finally (barely) able to get the bar back on the rack.... talk about embarrassing!! Oh well, at least not too many people saw what was going on. Next time I WILL use a spotter!!!
Other than that it was a good workout. I also filled out a form to contact the lone trainer that has figure experience at my gym. I probably should have waited a bit, but I want to make sure she actually can help me. Id on't want to find out a month from the competition that she does do that etc.

Here We Go!
I am just starting my journey to my first figure competition. I am 30 years old, and have 3 kids. I started working out at my gym a little over a year ago. I started out using the New Rules of Lifting for Women. It helped me gain a decent amount of muscle and lose quite a bit of fat. However, I still have a way to go. My comp is on July 27, 2010. I am hoping I am ready to compete at that time. Anyway, I guess I plan to use this blog to chart my progress and write about stuff I find out, etc. I really enjoy working out, but being a working mom it is hard to find the time sometimes. I am hoping this will help me stay motivated as well. Anyway, I am about to go shower and then go to the gym! (yeah sounds backward... except I am covered in dust from sanding... doing a little remodeling too)
