At least not on exercise. I guess I have been a little with updates. Well, if things go as planned and I go to the gym tomorrow that will make 4 strength training sessions this week! I actually think that will be a new record because before I was doing 3 times a week. I don't think I have ever gone 4 times. I also figure with this new schedule I am going to have to step things up at home because otherwise dh will start complaining that my working out is getting in the way of things I SHOULD be doing at home. ( I completely agree with that too. I signed up to be a wife and mother long before I decided to be a figure athlete).
So I have been super sore this week... which I know they say is not necessary, but damn, it makes me feel like I had a good workout. I am going to try to put some pictures up soon. Probably about 2 or three weeks from now I will put up my January last year pic compared to my January this year pic, but I want a couple more weeks of this new routine under my belt first.
I have not heard back from the girl at my gym that I wanted help from on figure competing. This makes me glad I tried so far in advanced because I may have to look elsewhere!!

Hi Jen how are you? Please forgive my intrusion if forgiveness is necessary. My name is Matt and I happened to find you through someone elses blog. Happy 2010 by the way, I hope you are well.
ReplyDeleteFirstly I wanted to say, congratulations on developing your lifestyle, into the healthy way you live today, if nothing else, you will end up with a really good quality of old age, and I am sure be a beautiful, healthy rolemodel to your children, as the love you give yourself would surely rub off on them.
I think what you're trying to do is great and I wish you good luck with it all :-).
I also wanted to say, that I think your goal of competing is a very noble one. I think there is a good chance that you could deliver on it, reading what you said about yourself and your progress.
I would suggest a few things that might help you if you like.
1. If you check my blog link, you'll find my site Steelmuscle. I wrote a long article in my Competing section, about the things I had read about female stage athletics, I.E. prep, what to expect etc etc and it's accessible to guests, so no need to register or post if you don't want.
That's not a plug for the site, I'm just pointing that out :-).
2. I would also suggest you use google images, and put in something like "figure poses". The search should come up with one or two sites, where you can see the poses and "turn" positions required for contests. Might help you ot visulaise things better, or help with some basic practice.
3. I would reccomend visiting this blog too. http://evenabbanationals2007.blogspot.com/
Eve is really a fantastic person, I've been supporting for years. She used to be very overweight, but she competed 2.5 years ago and has placed 1st and 2nd in practically every figure event she has done, plus you'll find routine footage of her recent event, to see how someone like that does it. I'sure she'd be very happy to know I passed her name onto another figure Lady :-).
3. I would politely suggest if you want more motivation to do this, do something like buy some 5-6" Perspex Heels, or a bikini. Buy one thing you'd need for a show, to make it feel more tangible, because if you did that, then lost your nerve and thought about quitting on the idea, you'd probably have to sell the item on-line for 20-30% maybe less still, than you payed for them.
Makes things more real, when you have something you'd have at the show, you can see, as a reminder of what you're doing and might look like.
Plus it might help you spead some of the expense a bit more :-).
Anyway, forgive me if I have done something wrong, but I wanted ot sasy hi and wish you lots of luck with your goal. I think you definitely can be proud of yourself for everything you are doing and i'm sure your family are very lucky to have your love, support and healthy attitude to look up to.
Whatever your health goals bring for you in 2010, I wish you lots of luck again and I hope maybe I might be permitted to follow your journey and see how things work out for you.
If not, then sincerest apologies for my posting. I meant nothing untoward by it.
Anyway, best wishes and have a great day.
With much respect
:-) :-)
Matt
Good luck with your prep! I did my first comp at 30 and had 3 kids too. I know exactly what you mean about keeping up with things so that the family balance is there. That is one of the biggest challenges of competing for me. It's worth it though! And your kids (and husband) will be sooooo proud of you!
